Galactic Heroes make their entrance in Cardfight!! Vanguard Overdress to protect the weak and defend against the strong! It’s exciting that an archetype for the Standard format will take up the mantle of justice that the Dimension Police stood for 3000 years ago, and they don’t disappoint. They can push damage, hit hard, and even defend outside of their hand! Before talking about each hero’s individual skills, first we mush discuss their base of operations.
Regroup to the Base!
This card is Heroes Base A.E.G.I.S, the main hub for your heroes and the prime engine of your deck. Aegis does three things:
- When set in the order zone, look at the top 7 and reveal 3 cards with “Hero” in their card names. Add one to hand and scout the rest into your Base. (Put into your order zone)
- If you rest your Base and discard a card, you can call one card from your Base to Rear-Guard Circle
- If you Soul Blast 1 and rest your Base, you can put one card from your Base to Guardian Circle to guard against an attack
This card does it all! It can flood the board, filter cards out of your deck, and even defend against attacks. Expect a lot of triggers to be flipped because all of your normal units are in your Base.
The Heroes Need a Leader. Go, Dyanos!
Meet Galactic Hero, Unite Dyanos, the main vanguard for the Hero archetype. He gives power to your units in two ways:
- All of your front-row rear guards with “Hero” in their card names get +5k power
- If you have one Base in your order zone, you can Counter Blast 1 to gain +15k power, and if there are 3 Bases you gain a critical.
Just like every good leader, he not only boosts himself but his support as well. In your second grade 3 turn, if you found 3 of your Bases you can start threatening to end the game if they’re at 3 damage. Note that the power gain to your rear-guards stay in the opponent’s turn too, which means casual 10k attacks won’t hurt them one bit!
Plan A Surprise Attack With Direct Folie!
Galactic Hero, Direct Folie is the main Hero for multi-attacks. Her skill reads:
- In the back row center rear guard circle, at the end of the battle your grade 3 “Hero” vanguard attacks, you can pay a Soul Blast and rest her to switch the positions of two rear guards in the same column
Direct Folie plays a vital role for pressure because she allows Heroes to attack more than three times, and because Dyanos gives power to the front row constantly, switching units allows you to hit magic numbers when attacking into a 10k vanguard. With criticals, power, and multi-attacks, Heroes can also play defensively with the next hero on this list.
Protect The Innocent With Rampart Aspida!
Galactic Hero, Rampart Aspida uses his powers to protect from large attacks while recovering soul in two ways:
- When this unit is scouted, Soul Charge 1
- When there is a base in your order zone and you have a “Hero” vanguard, this unit gets 10k shield
When set up correctly, Rampart Aspida can delay us one more turn of defense before blasting them with our critically-charged, powerful vanguard with multi-attacking rears. He provides the Heroes with a reasonable amount of bulk outside of the hand that also fuels other skills that use the Soul like Bases and Direct Folie.
The Main Attackers of A.E.G.I.S
- Galactic Hero, Flaton Sphire retires the opponent’s front-row rear guards with a Counter Blast while gaining power if the Order Zone contains a Base.
- Galactic Hero, Wired Crossten serves as the grade 2 ride line to scout a card from the hand while drawing. His rear guard skill lets him gain +5k power if moved to another rear guard circle during the battle phase
These two attackers serve as the prime targets for Direct Folie’s skill, letting Heroes hit 30k numbers repeatedly during a Persona Ride turn. When Dyanos is swinging 38k power with a critical, taking the damage from one of these multi-attacks is a harder decision than one might think.
The Heroes Need Help! Go, Architect Percy!
While one rear-guard column is busy multi-attacking with Direct Folie’s support, there is one other column that can hit hard in the finale. Galactic Hero, Architect Percy supports the Heroes with power-gain when the opponent gets lucky with damage triggers:
- When placed as a vanguard, search one “Base” card, add to hand and shuffle the deck.
- When boosting a “Hero” unit, Percy gains +5k power.
Architect Percy’s power gain becomes relevant when opponents flip damage triggers and our rear-guards need the power to go through. When boosting one of the main attackers during a Persona Ride turn, one column could hit at least 38k power, not even considering drive checking triggers. When Folie does not show herself, boosting with Architect Percy can make Heroes reach massive numbers!
Conclusion
The cards shown for the Hero archetype serve as an exciting introduction to what this deck can provide in the future. I’m most excited for the potential defensive properties Heroes can gain when guarding with the Base, and I hope there are more ways to gain cards from the Base in the future. When these warriors gain new Bases, I am sure they will make an impact on Overdress in a meaningful way.
