Masanori teaching you how to perform Alchemagic

How Alchemagic Works in Cardfight Vanguard

Alchemagic is a unique skill mainly used by popular Cardfight!! Vanguard unit Mysterious Rain Spiritualist, Zorga, his multiple variants, and Iron Anchor Resentment Dragon. This keyword allows you to play two normal orders at the same time, one from hand and one from the drop zone.

Proper use of Alchemagic will allow you to maximize the value of each order while managing resources by combining costs at the same time. Cards like Shadowcloak let you search for orders from the deck, letting you play minimal copies of valuable orders without sacrificing consistency.

Alchemagic makes Zorga quite a versatile deck, allowing you to:

Alchemagic lets you respond to any situation when you have the right orders on-hand and your drop zone.

Mastering Alchemagic will allow you to express yourself freely in deck building while countering any strategy your opponent may throw at you.

How to Perform Alchemagic

When playing a normal order from hand, if the ability of your card allows it, you can Alchemagic. This allows you to bind an order from your drop zone to activate the card. Here is how the effects resolve when performing Alchemagic:

  1. The costs listed in both normal orders are paid at the same time.
  2. The effects of the normal order played by-hand are activated first, and the bound order is activated afterwards.

When effects trigger at the same time, Cardfight Vanguard allows you to choose which effect to activate in the order you choose. Each effect is performed as much as possible.

When you perform Alchemagic, the bound normal order technically combines itself to the normal order played by hand. The costs, effects, and even the physical card combines with the order played by hand. This allows for weird interactions that normally don’t happen when you play Cardfight Vanguard, especially in the Overdress format.

Weird Interactions with Stoicheia Cards

Here are examples of weird interactions that happen with Stoicheia cards when you Alchemagic. This is not an exhaustive list since card interactions are unique depending on order and which order is bound or played on-hand. If there are interactions you may be wondering about, consult a judge from your local card shop.

Judges are experts in card interaction, so if you have a problem in the middle of your game, they may be able to help.

Examples of weird interactions are:

  • If you activate Tearful Malice from hand, because both cards physically combine after Alchemagic, the bound order does not go to the bind zone, but goes to your soul after activating the effect. If you know this tactic, your soul becomes much more manageable as you activate Tearful Malice multiple times a game.
  • You can only resolve the effect of Shadowcloak to bounce a card from the field to your hand if the unit is present in the field. This means you cannot retire Shadowcloak and activate its effect posthumously. Make sure to place your Shadowcloaks effectively.
  • Roaming Prison Dragon can activate its skill in the drop zone even when it is in the field, only when it is retired during Alchemagic. That means you can activate its skill after paying for costs from Tearful Malice or some other order that allows you to retire.
